2017 MN Schools of Character & Promising Practices Awards Ceremony

Governor Dayton proclaimed May 25 as Character Recognition Day in Minnesota. In celebration, Synergy & Leadership Exchange presented awards to one district, five schools and three community programs for excellence in character and ethical leadership development at the Character Recognition Awards ceremony. Kevin McHenry, Minnesota Department of Education Assistant Commissioner, offered his congratulations to the honorees and Dr. Verna Price, founder of the Girls in Action program, inspired attendees with her keynote.
The Minnesota Schools of Character recognizes schools and/or districts that excel in exemplifying the "11 Principles of Effective Character Education" and demonstrate outstanding initiatives yielding positive results in student behavior, school climate and academic performance. The Minnesota Promising Practices Award celebrates schools that have developed and implemented a unique and specific practice promoting character development in their schools. The practices are shared on the Synergy website where other schools can learn about and implement them in their own schools. The Minnesota Ethical Leadership Award honors community programs developing character strengths and ethical leadership skills in its participants. A blue-ribbon panel of experts is utilized to evaluate and make recommendations for each award category.
