2019 Minnesota School of Character Announced
Congratulations to Community of Peace Academy for being recertified as a Minnesota School of Character by Character.org in collaboration with Synergy & Leadership Exchange. Nationally, 87 schools and three districts received the honor for 2019.

Minnesota Promising Practices Awards celebrate unique practices schools have created that effectively promote character development in PreK–12 students. Apply online. Applications due Feb. 15, 2019. Examples and more information on the Promising Practices webpage.

Check out the new Minnesota Schools of Character video featuring two-time Minnesota and National School of Character honoree, Community of Peace Academy from Saint Paul, Minnesota. A special thanks to the C. Charles Jackson Foundation for the grant which funded the work.

WEM Outstanding Educator Awards Program Honorees Announced
  • Stephen Chapin (Teacher Achievement) is high school physical education and health teacher at St. James Middle/High School. Stephen has been teaching for 22 years. View press release.
  • Susanne Collins (Teacher Achievement Award) is a sixth grade elementary teacher at Edgerton Elementary School in Maplewood. Susanne has been teaching for 19 years. View press release.
  • Chris Goebel (Athletic Coach Award) is an elementary teacher at Mora elementary school. He also coaches cross country and track and field. Chris has been teaching and coaching for 17 years. View press release.
  • Megan Schimek (Ethics in Education Award) is a high school biology teacher at Pine Island High School. Megan has been teaching for 10 years. View press release.
  • Ruth Thom (Academic Challenge Coach) is an elementary school teacher at DaVinci Academy of Arts and Science in Ham Lake. She also coaches Math Masters. Ruth has been teaching and coaching for 21 years. View press release.
  • Melanie Urban (Ethics in Education) is a high school social studies teacher at Maple River High School. Melanie has been teaching for 10 years. View press release.
